GISA Member School Resources & Opportunities

Below is a summation of our different services and opportunities for member schools, however further details are also provided throughout the website.

Teacher of the Year

Each fall GISA recognizes three Teachers of the Year for their outstanding work in the classroom. Winners are chosen from the Lower, Middle and Upper School. Nominations are due in May for the following academic year. Submissions are to include a letter of recommendation from the head of school or division head, letter of recommendation from another person affiliated with the school and a candidate essay. Master Teacher Program

The GISA Master Teacher Program will bestow well-deserved recognition to teachers who exhibit best practices in the classroom and a willingness to share and collaborate with other educators. These teachers inspire excellence among colleagues and students alike. Heads of School are encouraged to nominate their best teachers. Click here for more information.

Emerging Leaders Institute

The GISA Emerging Leaders Institute is a nine-month, cohort-based leadership development program designed specifically for educators in independent schools who aspire to grow into leadership roles. Participants engage in a blend of immersive workshops, virtual check-ins, school shadowing experiences, and mentorship. Throughout the program, they explore the unique challenges of independent school contexts while building meaningful networks with peers and seasoned leaders. By the culmination, educators emerge as confident, connected leaders ready to step into elevated roles within their institutions. Click here for more information.

Teacher Grants

There are two types of grants awarded through the Fred H. Loveday Endowment Foundation, which is funded by the generous donations of our member schools.

The Innovative Grants are awarded to teachers who have submitted a proposal for a creative project that has a sustainable and positive impact on the school community. Three Innovative Grants are awarded, one for each grade level: elementary, middle, and high school. Click here for Innovative Grants information.

The Summer Study Grants provides financial support for GISA member school educators seeking professional learning opportunities that enhance their teaching skills and subject area expertise. These grants enable teachers to attend workshops, conferences, or specialized courses directly related to their classroom instruction. Click here for Summer Study Grants information.

Board Training

GISA will assist Boards by strengthening governance, supporting strategic decision-making, and promoting organizational health by equipping trustees with the knowledge and tools to lead effectively.

It clarifies board roles, fosters collaboration, and improves performance, helping boards align with their school’s mission, ensure financial sustainability, and meet accreditation standards.

Ongoing professional development empowers trustees to make informed decisions that benefit students, advance the school, and support long-term sustainability. Click here for more information.

Heads Search

Selecting the right Head of School is one of the most important decisions an independent school community will make. The Head sets the tone for leadership, culture, and long-term vision, guiding the school through challenges and opportunities while upholding its mission. A strong, aligned leader can inspire faculty, support students, and engage families in meaningful ways. GISA understands the significance of this process and will actively facilitate the search by providing expert insights, proven tools, and personalized support to help schools identify and secure the best fit—someone who will lead the school confidently into the future. Click here for more information.

Strategic Planning

Strategic Planning is essential for independent schools as it provides a clear roadmap for achieving long-term goals, aligning resources, and strengthening the school’s mission and vision. It fosters informed decision-making, accountability, and sustainable growth. As a required standard for GISA (Georgia Independent School Association) accreditation, strategic planning is a key component of a school’s commitment to continuous improvement. GISA supports and guides its member schools throughout the strategic planning process, ensuring they are equipped to meet current challenges and prepare effectively for the future.
